Over 400 doses of Covid-19 booster shots administered yesterday

The Health and Wellness Ministry says it administered just over 400 doses of Covid-19 booster shots, yesterday (December 13).

Booster doses of the Johnson and Johnson, Pfizer and Astrazeneca vaccines are available.

Effective yesterday, Jamaica began offering a booster shot of the single dose Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 vaccine to all persons 18 years and older.

The Johnson and Johnson booster can be given two to six months after the administration of the primary dose.

Also starting yesterday, adults 60 years and older and healthcare workers, are eligible to receive a booster dose, of the other Covid-19 vaccines.

The Ministry is recommending that a booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine be offered six months or more after the completion of the initial doses, that may have consisted of either Pfizer, or Astrazeneca and Johnson & Johnson.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry also began the administration of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine yesterday.

Jamaica received 200,000 doses of that vaccine last month.
