The Pan-American Health Organization, PAHO is reporting that the Delta Covid-19 variant remains the dominant strain in the region.

This, as several Caribbean countries and other nations have increased testing, to determine whether or not the Omicron variant is in their populations.

Speaking at a press briefing yesterday (December 1), Director of PAHO, Dr. Carissa Etienne noted that there are still many unknowns about Omicron.

She explained that there is not yet enough evidence to determine the degree of transmissibility, severity of the virus and the effectiveness of vaccines against it.

Dr. Etienne added that variant tracking continues and its likely that Omicron will pop up in the region soon.
