Patrick Chung among athletes to join auction for Coronavirus relief

Jamaican-born NFL player Patrick Chung is among a group of over 150 athletes, coaches and sports personalities from 13 different countries who have joined together to raise money for a COVID-19 response fund.

The fund, which is the brainchild of David Schwab, the Executive Vice President for the sports agency Octagon, is aimed at providing assistance for individuals fighting the global pandemic.

As well as Chung, the list of participating athletes includes the likes of Stephen Curry, Simone Biles, Chris Paul, Michael Phelps, Rory Mcllroy, Javier Hernandez and Kirk Cousins.

Donors can visit the website https://athletesrelief.org/ where a minimum $25 donation under the name of the athlete of their choice will enter them to win various prizes.

The program, which runs through May 1, has already raised more than $63,000.

Chung who plays for the New England Patriots has donated a signed pair of shoes and gloves which has so far raised $380. US Women’s National Team star Rose Lavelle is top of the list thus far with her signed jersey earning $6,927.

All of the proceeds raised will go to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s COVID-19 Response Fund, where it will be pooled with other donations to help organizations like Meals on Wheels, Feeding America, Heathcare Ready and the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics.
