PEP exam at Ramble Primary postponed after Grade 4 teacher is chopped by husband

The sitting of the primary exit profile grade 4 performance task examinations, at the Ramble Primary School in Manchester, was postponed, today (May 30).

This as one of the administering teachers and her eight month old baby were attacked in a dispute this morning which left the baby dead and the teacher hospitalised with chop wounds.

Principal of the Ramble Primary school Lenford Pinnock told Irie FM News that the decision to postpone the exams was taken by the education ministry after learning of the incident.

He says he is uncertain as to when the exam will be held.

Mr. Pinnock said she is a good teacher.

He said a trauma team was on hand to offer counselling to staff and students today and is scheduled to return when school resumes tomorrow.

And, Minister with Responsibility for Education Karl Samuda, has expressed regret at the wounding of the teacher, in Manchester.

The grade 4 teacher was chopped several times by her common-law-husband at their home in Mandeville this morning.

The man chopped and killed the couple’s infant son.

In a statement today, Mr. Samuda says the incident outlines the need for suitable anger management and dispute resolution options.

The minister explained that the teacher was scheduled to be one of the invigilators for today’s exams.

He said students have been left traumatized by the incident and are unable to sit the PEP exams.

A trauma team has been dispatched to the school and that efforts are being made to ensure that the exams are conducted at the soonest possible time.
