Perera stretchered off after injury on day 3 of third WI Test

by June 25th, 2018

Sri Lanka could be without wicketkeeper batsman Kusal Perera for the remainder of the ongoing third and final Test against the West Indies in Barbados.

Perera sustained injuries while attempting a catch at the long-on boundary.

He was immediately rushed to hospital for a scan

The incident occurred in the 29th over, with the Windies reeling on 82 for 9 where he intercepted a slog, but lost control with the momentum from his leap taking him beyond the boundary.

He subsequently overbalanced and crashed into the advertising hoardings, where he landed awkwardly on his front-side and immediately clutched his chest and signalled for assistance.

Play was halted and dinner break was taken.

With an hour to go for stumps, it was confirmed by the official broadcasters that the 27 year old was still under observation in hospital and wouldn’t bat for the remainder of the day.

In his absence, Danushka Gunathilaka and Mahela Udawatte opened in Sri Lanka’s quest to chase down 144.

An official word on his participation for the remainder of the Test is awaited.
