Peru forward Jefferson Farfan remains in hospital

by June 25th, 2018

Peru forward Jefferson Farfan remains in hospital in the wake of a training collision and is unable to be with his team in the final World Cup group game against Australia on Tuesday.

The Lokomotiv Moscow player suffered concussion when he collided with under-20 goalkeeper Jeremy Aguirre during Saturday training. He was knocked unconscious and has been in hospital since then, in a stable condition.

“I would die to be with my team-mates this last game, but according to medical recommendations it is impossible,” Farfan said Monday on Instagram.

“I can only support my team-mates and the coaching staff from the clinic.”

“The most important thing is that he will recover,” coach Ricardo Gareca said Monday.

Peru are eliminated after defeats against Denmark and France but want to leave the tournament in Russia with a win against the Socceroos, who can still qualify.
