Prime Minister Andrew Holness is facing criticism from the Opposition and members of the public, over the one hundred thousand dollar fine imposed on Government Ministers, who did not adhere to the COVID-19 protocols at the recent album launch party of a popular Dance Hall artiste.
The Prime Minister, who made the announcement while addressing the Lower House yesterday (March 17), noted that the money will be donated to charity or the defence fund for persons charged under the Disaster Risk Management Act (DRMA).
The fine comes in the wake of public outrage about double standards after videos and pictures of the politicians attending the event began circulating on social media.
The only politician seen wearing a mask at the event was Entertainment Minster, Olivia Grange.
Speaking with IRIE FM news, Opposition Spokesman on Culture and Entertainment, Damion Crawford has described the Prime Minister’s announcement as unacceptable and unconstitutional.
Mr. Crawford also described the fine as disrespectful and a slap in the face of the public.
