PM Holness: Govt working to use more renewable energy

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says government is working assiduously to use more sources of renewable energy to ensure greater energy security.

Mr. Holness explains that the plan is for wind and solar to   play a greater part in Jamaica’s energy mix.

According to the Prime Minister,   a deliberate approach has been taken to diversify energy sources, pointing to   a significant increase in the use of liquefied natural gas LNG as well as renewables.

He adds that Energy Minister Dr. Andrew Wheatley has been directed to pay more attention to developing the biofuel sector.

The Prime Minister states that the country’s energy security rests significantly on upgrading the refinery.

He states that about 18 percent of the targeted 30 percent of the country’s electricity need, is generated by renewables.

He was speaking today (Feb 22) at a ceremony to officially name Petrojam Limited’s Corporate Office building on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston, as the Edward Seaga Building.
