PM Holness says country heading out of fourth wave of pandemic

by February 20th, 2022

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the country is heading out of the fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, he underscores the need to be protected, as the country is now entering into the endemic phase of the virus.

The prime minister made the comments on Saturday at the St Joseph’s Hospital in Kingston, where he took his booster shot.

He said the administering of Covid-19 booster shots along with the maintaining of protocols will aid in keeping the public safe, when measures under the Disaster Risk Management Act, are lifted.

He noted that the endemic phase will see the strength of the vaccines waning and as such, those who are already vaccinated will need to get the booster shot.

The prime minister cautioned against ideas that the pandemic is over because of the decrease in the number of daily cases.

He said the only way that the pandemic will be over, is if the population has the natural or vaccinated immunity to combat the virus.
