by February 25th, 2022

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has pointed out, that while every effort will be made to get Jamaican students out of Ukraine, and back home, such a move, is dependent on the student’s personal choice.

About 15 Jamaican students have left Ukraine, while about 26 others remain there.

Mr Holness comments follow criticism that the government has not done enough to get the students home, amid the conflict, due to an invasion by Russia.

Regarding the offer of a travel loan to the students, Mr Holness said this is standard procedure.

He explained that the government has to be accountable, for how public funds are spent.

Mr Holness said the Foreign Affairs Ministry maintains contact with the students, and is making arrangements for them.

He was speaking at the Stony Hill Police Station ground breaking ceremony on Thursday.
