Prime Minister Andrew Holness has again made it clear, that the government intends to follow through on the wishes of the populace, and eventually cut ties with Britain.

He told the visiting royals, during a courtesy call at Jamaica House today, that Jamaica is moving on, and intends to fulfill ambitions as an independent, prosperous country.

Prior to today’s declaration, in the presence of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Mr. Holness, and other members of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) administration, have indicated that efforts are being made to have Jamaica transition to a republic.

These include the establishment of the new Ministry of Legal and Constitutional Affairs, as well as, work being done by the National Council on Reparation, to finalize the ‘Roadmap to Reparation’ national policy.

Prince William and Catherine are visiting Jamaica, to mark the platinum jubilee of the coronation of her majesty the queen, and the 60th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence.

Not all Jamaicans have been welcoming, as some staged protests at the British high commission.

Mr. Holness acknowledged the mixed reaction Jamaicans have had to the royal visit, and the need to address the concerns raised.
