Despite Jamaica recording its first case of the coronavirus (Covid-19) today, Prime Minister Andrew Holness is urging persons to go about their normal business, but to do so with caution.
Noting that the government will activate its mitigation plan to prevent the spread of the virus, Mr. Holness is reiterating that smart and informed human behavior must be exhibited by citizens.
He says persons who are ill should stay home.
Meantime, Mr. Holness says public gatherings are discouraged and government officials have been instructed to avoid unnecessary travel.
He adds that schools will remain in session, but measures are being put in place to safeguard staff and students.
The Prime Minister says the government will continue to provide information to the public as it becomes available.
Mr. Holness says he is confident that citizens will act to prevent the spread of the virus.
He was speaking at a press briefing in Kingston this afternoon.
