As Jamaica observes Emancipation Day today, Prime Minister Andrew Holness is urging citizens to use the freedom afforded them to improve their lives and those of future generations.

In his Emancipation Day message, Mr. Holness said by embracing their freedom, Jamaicans are honouring the country’s liberators.

Mr. Holness also urged Jamaicans to guard the freedom of their minds.

He also encouraged citizens to use positive information to uplift themselves.

Meantime, in his message, opposition leader Mark Golding says as the nation celebrates emancipation day focus must be placed on the fair treatment of all Jamaicans.

He says there must be a collective effort to ensure equality and a better Jamaica for all.
