PNP caretaker calls for Security Ministry to probe allegations of police assault

People’s National Party standard bearer for Central Clarendon Zuleika Jess has called on the National Security Ministry to launch a probe into allegations of assault by police officers during an operation in Baileys Heights, on Friday (Jun 29).

Residents of the community claim that the officers assaulted 2 young children.

Yesterday, the head of the police division indicated that she has not received any report of the matter and urged the affected persons to file a formal complaint.

On Friday, teams of officers conducted an operation in Baileys Heights, during which a man, alleged to be a gangster was shot and killed in an alleged confrontation.

Residents claim that a young boy and girl were assaulted by some officers, and staged a demonstration to voice their concern.

Ms. Jess visited the scene and spoke with the residents.

She told Irie FM News that she is troubled by the clams made by the residents.

The PNP standard bearer said police officers are expected to carry out their duties with professionalism and respect.

She wants the minister to intervene in the matter.
