PNP says measures can still be implemented to issue food packages to the vulnerable who will be affected by 7 -no movement days

by August 20th, 2021

Opposition Spokesman on Finance Julian Robinson says measures can still be implemented to issue food packages to the vulnerable who will be greatly affected by the 7 no movement days announced by the government, yesterday (August 19).

The first phase of the lockdown runs from Sunday August 22 to Tuesday August 24.

The lockdown begins at 8 p-m on Saturday and ends Wednesday at 5 a-m.

The following week the lockdown runs from Sunday, August 29 to Tuesday, August 31. Sunday, September 5, is also a no-movement day.

Mr. Robinson says the government should provide members of parliament and councillors with resources to garner food items to distribute across the island.

The Opposition Spokesman says provisions must be made for both weekends to cushion the effect of the lockdown on persons who might still be suffering from the initial effects of the pandemic.

He argues that the government achieved some 9 billion in surplus at the end of the June financial quarter, and as such has the resources to take care of the vulnerable.

He was speaking at a People’s National Party press conference, this morning (August 20).
