Police Chief promises to rid force of corrupt practices

by February 16th, 2018

Acting Police Commissioner Clifford Blake has pledged to stamp out corrupt practices in the force.

The assurance comes, after concerns were raised, that with the passage of a new Road Traffic Act, police officers will be enticed to request and accept bribes from motorists, given the significant increases in the financial penalties for breaches.

The Acting Police Commissioner says, there will be robust monitoring by the inspectorate of constabulary, as misconduct in any form is unacceptable, and will not be countenanced by the police High Command.

He adds, that the strongest possible actions will be taken in cases, where this act of criminality is reported and/or detected, stating that the response will be swift, decisive and fair.

Commissioner Blake also said, that all commanding officers have been tasked, to employ a zero tolerance approach to acts of corruption by members of the JCF and civilians.

He urges citizens, to promptly report to the IOC or the MOCA, any member of the JCF who solicits a bribe from them, so that investigations may be carried out, and sanctions levelled where the member is found to be guilty.

Commissioner Blake is imploring all members of the JCF to obey the laws of the land, and to refrain from any conduct that can lead to their arrest and prosecution.

Citizens who wish to lodge complaints about any member of the JCF, may contact the IOC at 906-5325 and MOCA at 754-0793.

The acting Commissioner also stressed, that any member of the public, who attempts to bribe a police officer in exchange for avoiding a ticket, will be prosecuted.
