Police Federation happy with court ruling

by March 16th, 2018

The Police Federation says it is pleased with the ruling handed down today by the Court of Appeal regarding the Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom).

The Federation had challenged the ability of Indecom to arrest and prosecute cops.

The court ruled that, under the Indecom Act, it doesn’t have the power to arrest, charge and prosecute officers.

Police Federation Chairman Sergeant Cecil McCalla says justice was served.

Meantime, Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn says while she has not yet read the actual judgement, based on reports, she is not surprised by the Court of Appeal’s ruling.

Ms. Llewellyn says she has raised concern in the past about Indecom’s powers.
