Police Federation reviewing advice from Legal Council

by August 29th, 2017

The Jamaica Police Federation is reviewing an opinion from Legal Council, to determine its next move as it seeks to challenge changes to the Constabulary Force Act governing the issue of resignation.

Under the amendments, members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) who fail to give six months’ notice before they resign, can be fined a maximum of $250,000 or three months’ imprisonment.

The Police Federation has expressed dissatisfaction with the amendments to the Constabulary Force Act, and representatives of the Federation met with attorney-at law Bert Samuels to get legal advice on the issue.

Chairman of Federation, Sergeant Raymond Wilson says the opinion has been received from Legal Council, and the Federation will be determining its next move shortly.
