Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson says a significant number of shootings and murders is the major reason for the implementation of a state of emergency in sections of the Corporate Area.

In responding to questions on the latest SOE, at today’s (Sep 25) meeting of parliaments Internal and External Affairs Committee, the commissioner explains that the areas encompassed by the SOE boundaries have had a significant amount of violence.

Commissioner Anderson adds that there were also criminal linkages that were of major concern.

Members of the Opposition People’s National Party were not satisfied with Commissioner Anderson’s justifications for the SOE in the Corporate Area.

Member of Parliament for Northern Clarendon, Horace Dalley, said he was unaware of the increased rate of crime and violence referred to by the commissioner that necessitated an SOE.
