Police say no major obstruction on the nation’s roads amid the start of the new academic year

by September 5th, 2022

The Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (P-STEB) is reporting that there was no major obstruction on the nation’s roadways, amid the start of the new academic year this morning (September 5).

There was concern that the start of the new school year would result in serious traffic congestion across the island.

In anticipation of the congestion, the Jamaica Constabulary Force had pledged to deploy the necessary resources to ensure smooth operations on the roadways.

In providing an update on this morning’s operations, Head of P-STEB, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gary McKenzie said there was no major issue as his team was proactive.

Noting that Portmore residents were known to experience serious traffic congestion during back-to-school periods in the past, ACP McKenzie said steps were taken to ensure reduced congestion in this area.
