Police seek Phillip Williams for questioning in relation to murder of young boy

Minister of National Security Dr. Horace Chang has condemned the brutal murder of the 8 year old boy, whose body was found in Kingston, yesterday, with his hands bound.

 

The deceased has been identified as Galen Buchanan, otherwise called Nick, of from Spanish Town Road, in Kingston.

 

Buchanan had been reported missing on Tuesday, after he disappeared from home.

 

The police have listed Phillip Williams, otherwise called Rochester, Phillip or Ochester Rose, as a person of interest in relation to the death of the young boy.

 

Speaking on the matter in St. Catherine this morning, the security minister said the murder of Buchanan is a reflection of the increasing level of the brutality of criminals in Jamaica.

 

 

Dr. Chang said the government is reviewing its social intervention programmes to ensure that it can tackle the deep rooted social dysfunctional issues that lead to brutal and insensitive crimes.

 

He added that the government is also working to ensure that the police force is organized and resourced to deal with all aspects of criminal activity.

 

 

Meantime, the Child Protection and Family Services Agncy (CPFSA) is offering support and counselling to the relatives of young Galen Buchanan who was found dead in Kingston yesterday.

 

In expressing condolences to the family, the CPFSA, noted that the agency is in dialogue with relatives, and that first responders have been deployed to offer grief counselling.

 

The CPFSA has also called on persons with information of the killing of young Galen to report what they know to the police.

 

The agency again appealed to citizens to always protect the nation’s children.

 

Galen had been reported missing on Tuesday.

 

Yesterday afternoon, residents stumbled upon Galen’s body in the Harbour of Royal Palm, Bournemouth Gardens, in Kingston 2, with his hands bound.

 

Detectives are asking anyone with information that can assist with the investigation to contact the Elletson road CIB at 876-928-4200, police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.
