by March 12th, 2022

Following the resignation of Minister Without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Robert Montague, at least one political analyst is suggesting that Opposition Senator Peter Bunting should also resign.

Mr. Montague and Mr. Bunting, were flagged by the Integrity Commission, in its report on investigations into allegations of corruption at the Firearm Licensing Authority, FLA.

The Commission found that both Mr. Montague and Mr. Bunting, in their former capacities as Ministers of National Security, granted gun licences to applicants with criminal antecedents, after the applicants appealed the FLA‘s initial denial of a licence.

Yesterday (March 11), the Jamaica Accountability Meter Portal, JAMP, called for the suspension of public officials found complicit, in the approval process, pending the outcome of further investigations.

Last evening, Prime Minister Andrew Holness confirmed Mr. Montague’s resignation.

Speaking in an interview with Irie Fm News, Political Analyst Kevin Obrien Chang lauded the move.

He said Mr. Bunting should take a similar action.
