Vendors of the New Forum Fishing Village in St. Catherine, whose stalls were gutted by fire yesterday (April 3), will soon receive assistance from the Portmore Municipal Corporation.

Representatives of the corporation and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security met with the vendors today (April 4) to discuss what assistance will be made available for the persons impacted by the fire.

The Jamaica Fire Brigade responded to the fire which destroyed about a dozen stalls shortly after 2 am Sunday. The loss is estimated at over 16 million dollars.

Speaking with Irie Fm News, Mayor of Portmore Leon Thomas, said the Ministry of Labour and Social Security is awaiting the fire report to determine the level of assistance needed on their part.

In the interim the municipal corporation will be providing some items to the vendors.
