Pre-testing for travel to Jamaica and mask mandate for enclosed public places, to expire on Friday

by April 13th, 2022

Pre-testing for travel to Jamaica and the mask mandate for enclosed public places, will expire on Friday April 15.

A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister clarifies that effective Friday, people travelling to Jamaica will no longer need to present a negative Covid test done three days prior to departure to Jamaica, while the wearing of masks in enclosed public places will be highly encouraged, but not mandatory.

The measures were implemented for the period March 18 to April 15, under the Public Health Enforcement Measures (Coronavirus Covid-19) order which was issued on March 18.

All other measures under the public health enforcement measures remain unchanged.

These include: a requirement for persons who test positive for Covid-19 to isolate and the requirement for operators of businesses, places of worship, educational institutions or other establishments to which the public has access to ensure sanitization on entry.

The OPM says Jamaicans are being reminded, that while the current case numbers are relatively low, the Covid-19 pandemic has not ended.

New variants and sub-variants of the Sars-Cov2 virus continue to emerge.

A number of countries are experiencing increases in case numbers arising from the spread of the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron.
