Public school teachers urged to wait a bit longer as efforts continue to settle outstanding payments

by March 31st, 2022

The island’s public school teachers are being urged to wait a bit longer, as efforts are being made to settle the matter of outstanding payments.

Scores of teachers have reportedly not received retroactive salaries owed to them for the last financial year, nor summer school payments, among other things.

A meeting involving the Education Ministry and the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) was held yesterday (March 30).

JTA President Winston Smith told IRIE FM news that there was a challenge relating to the increment date.

He said the Education Ministry has given a commitment that the monies will be paid.

Mr. Smith said it is hoped that the teachers will be paid in April.
