Raheem Sterling named among Europe’s 10 best players

Jamaican-born England international Raheem Sterling has been named in the top 10 best players in European club football this season.

The data, compiled by the France based CIES Football observatory, ranks players in Europe’s big 5 leagues who have played at least 1,800 minutes over the season  or 1,440 in  Germany  according to their performance level.

Sterling of English Premier League champions Manchester City is at number 8.

Lionel Messi heads the table ahead of Sterling’s teammate David Silva and Paulo Dybala. Six Manchester City players are in the top 10 list.

Robert Lewandowski ranks the table for German Bundesliga players (10th overall), while Edinson Cavani heads the French Ligue 1 rankings (21th overall).

Completed the top 5 are Sergio Aguero Nicholas Otamendi with Mohammed Salah, Luiz Fernando and Kevin De Bruyne also in the top 10.

Per position, the best-ranked footballers are Marc-André ter Stegen for goalkeepers, Otamendi for defenders, Silva for midfielders and Messi for forwards.

The English Premier League is the most represented competition in the top 100 positions (30 footballers), while Bayern Munich is the most represented club (11 players).

In total, 26 teams have at least one squad member in the top 100 list. The youngest footballers are Kylian Mbappé, Houssem Aouar, Malcom Filipe, Tanguy Ndombélé, Davinson Sánchez and Leroy Sané.
