Shamera Sterling, despite a record equalling performance was unable to prevent the Adelaide Thunderbirds from suffering a 65-47 loss to a Magpies Netball team that included fellow Jamaican Shimona Nelson in the early game in round 4 in the Suncorp Super Netball League in Australia.

Sterling, the Thunderbirds’ newest recruit, ended with a game-high 8 intercepts to equal the previous record set by Sharni Layton for the most in a game.

The 23 year old now leads the league in that statistical category with 22 and is also first in deflections and defensive rebounds with 37 and 11 respectively.

Nelson meanwhile ended with a game high 52 goals from 57 attempts and is now second behind Sunshine Girls teammate Jhaniele Fowler at the top of the scoring chart with 183 goals.

Fowler, who leads the way with 201, converted a game high 51 of her 54 shots to help the West Coast Fever play to an exciting 63-63 tie against a Melbourne Vixens team that featured Jamaican defender Kadie-Ann Dehaney.

Romelda Aiken – the other Jamaican playing in the league – will suit up for the struggling Queensland Firebirds who entertain Giants Netball.
