Reggae Boys finish as runners up in 2017 Concacacf Gold Cup

by July 27th, 2017

For the second time in two years Jamaica’s Senior Reggae boys finished as runners up in the Concacacf Gold Cup, after going down 2-1 to the USA last night in a spirited final in Santa Clara, California.

USA took the lead in the 45th minute when Jozy Altidore fired in a well-placed free kick, but Jamaica came storming back when Jevaughn Watson slammed home from close range from a corner.

However the Americans went back in front for good when Jordan Morris blasted a shot past Dwayne Miller in goal two minutes from time.

Earlier Jamaica suffered a major setback in the 23rd minute when goal keeper Andre Blake was substituted after receiving a terrible blow to his right-hand when he was kicked by Kelly Acosta after deflecting a shot from Altidore.

Jamaica’s coach Theodore Whitmore says the reggae boys did Jamaica proud.

Blake won the golden glove award for the top goal keeper of the tournament, Canada’s Alphonso Davis won the young player award and golden boot after scoring a competition best three goals, while Michael Bradley received the prize of the golden ball award for the best player of the tournament.

Meanwhile Blake, along with team mates Kemar Lawrence and Jermaine Taylor were named to the tournament’s best eleven.
