Reggae Boyz Starts 2015 On Winning Note

Jamaica’s national senior football team last night kicked off their 2015 season in fine style defeating South American team Venezuela 2-1 in a friendly international at the Montego Bay Stadium.

The Reggae Boyz fell behind in the 15th minute as Gabriel Cichero composed shot put the visitors ahead but new boy Giles Barnes had a dream debut replying for Jamaica a minute later to make it 1-1 at half time.

After squandering at least three clear chances, it was Darren Mattocks who found the winner for the home team in the 60th minute to stretch Jamaica’s unbeaten run at the Montego Bay Stadium to six matches since the Caribbean Cup last November.

Coach Winfried Schafer had high praises for his team noting that the quality of the Venezuelan side made the victory even bigger that those at the Caribbean Cup.

Meanwhile New Boy Giles Barnes who previously played in England before moving to current club MLS side Houston Dynamo was national happy to have scored on debut but says it’s all about the team.

In the meantime the Reggae Boyz will return to the Pitch on Monday when they face Cuba in another Friendly International also at the Montego Bay Stadium.
