Reggae Girls face stern Canadian test in CWC opener

The Reggae Girls will on Friday begin their campaign at the Concacaf Women’s Championship when they take on Group B rivals Canada at H-E-B Park in Edinburg, Texas.

The Jamaicans, participating in their sixth Concacaf Women’s Championship, qualified for the final eight by finishing atop the Caribbean final round with maximum 12 points from 4 games while outscoring their opponents 23-2.

The attack will be led by striker Khadija Shaw, who scored a team-high 16 goals during qualifying, including six in a win over Guadeloupe.

She will be assisted by the likes of Trudi Carter and Giselle Washington who contributed four goals each in qualifying and Chinyelu Asher who added three.

The Canadians, who are coached by Kenneth Heiner-Moller, have never lost to Jamaica in the Concacaf Women’s Championship, recording 5 straight wins, scoring 40 goals and conceding once.

The game is set to start at 7:30pm Jamaica time.

It will be preceded by the opening game of the double-header between Cuba and Costa Rica at 5:00pm.
