Reid: education system responsible for high number of unattached youths

by September 8th, 2018

Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid has blamed the country’s education system for the staggeringly high levels of unattached youths who are now allegedly creating chaos for law enforcement officers.

Senator Reid said many young people have fallen through the cracks because the education system failed them overtime.

Citing the significant increase in Jamaica’s population over the past few decades, the minister lamented that there was no educational institution to absorb the young people who had been left to fend for themselves.

Senator Reid said many of these young people have ventured into illegal activities, such as lottery scamming, and now pose a serious challenge to the security forces.

He was speaking the re-branded Knockalva Polytechnic College, formerly the Knockalva Agricultural School, in Ramble, Hanover yesterday (Sep 7).
