Residents protest fatal shooting in downtown Kingston

Tension remains high on Charles Street, in downtown Kingston, where a man was fatally shot by a member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) last evening.

 

The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Oraine Glenn of Charles Street, Kingston 14.

 

Police say Glenn was fatally shot during a confrontation.

 

Preliminary reports are that a team of JDF personnel was on patrol on Charles Street when they accosted a group of men and requested to search them. It is alleged that a member of the JDF attempted to take Glenn into custody, but he allegedly tried to disarm the officer.

 

A tussle ensued and Glenn was reportedly shot. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

 

Following the incident, residents staged a fiery protest demanding justice.

 

One resident claimed that Glenn was killed in his own yard.

 

She called on INDECOM to move swiftly in its investigation of the case.

 

 

Another resident called for the Member of Parliament to intervene.
