Residents of Retirement in St. James have taken to the streets in protest against unsafe driving practices by motorists in their community, following the death of a child, yesterday (May 9).

The eleven-year-old boy died while being treated for injuries he received when he was hit by a speeding motor vehicle, on Sunday.

Councillor for the Granville Division, Michael Troupe told IRIE F-M news that accidents occur far too frequently on the roadway in question.

He said the residents are frustrated and are calling for action.

He said he will be visiting the area with representatives from the St. James Municipal Corporation with a view to determine what action can be taken to prevent a recurrence of Sunday’s incident.
