Robert Haynes to be announced as West Indies chairman of selectors

Former Jamaica Scorpions coach Robert Haynes is to be announced as the new West Indies chairman of selectors.

IRIE FM understands that this will be among the major announcements to be made when new Cricket West Indies president Ricky Skerritt holds a press conference in Antigua on Thursday.

Haynes, who back in 2013 served on the West Indies selection panel along with Clyde Butts and Courtney Browne, is to replace Browne who joined the selection panel in 2013 and took over as chairman in 2016.

The 54 year old, in his most recent roll, guided the Jamaica Scorpions to a bottom of the table finish in the Regional Four Day Championship after taking over as coach in January.

The announcement of the axing of interim coach Richard Pybus is also expected to be made at Thursday’s press conference.

Pybus after guiding the West Indies to reclaiming the Wisden Trophy with a 2-1 series win over England is to be replaced by former Barbadian and Windies batsman Floyd Reifer.

The Windies squad for the upcoming triangular series in Ireland and the World Cup is also expected to be selected on Wednesday with the squad for the triangular series to be announced on Thursday.

The World Cup is scheduled to bowl off on May 31 and end on July 14.

The Windies will open their campaign against Pakistan in Nottingham on May 31.
