Investigators were reportedly still questioning former education minister Ruel Reid and Caribbean Maritime University President Fritz Pinnock.

The men were among five persons taken into custody earlier today, as the probe into allegations of corruption at the education ministry continues.

The Financial Investigations Division reported that the question and answer process for some of the persons taken in, was completed a few hours ago.

Simultaneous operations were carried out this morning by Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency, the Financial Investigation Division, and the Constabulary Financial Unit of the Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation branch, across three parishes.

The investigators said the operations which commenced at 5:00 a.m. targeted the main suspects implicated in a multi-million dollar corruption, misappropriation of public funds, and fraudulent schemes perpetrated at the Ministry of Education, Caribbean Maritime University and other government entities falling under the portfolio responsibility of Ruel Reid, former senator and minister of government.

The simultaneous operations were done at four locations in Kingston, St. Catherine and St. Ann.

In addition to the detention of persons, several items were seized, including documents and electronic devices.

The education ministry and connecting institutions, including the CMU have been under the spotlight since several allegations of impropriety were raised at parliament’s public administration and appropriations committee (PAAC).
