by May 10th, 2017

The Education Ministry says, it will be working on a five year development plan for the Westwood High School in Stewart Town, Trelawny.

The announcement came from Education Minister, Ruel Reid, as he toured the school, sections of which were gutted by fire, last Tuesday.

The Education Ministry says, it will cost some $50 m to rebuild the kitchen, dining room, the matrons quarters, among other areas.

The Education Ministry is to provide $25 m and hopes the alumni and other concerned Jamaicans will come up with the rest of the money.

Mr. Reid says, among the areas to be targeted, will be the school’s science lab.

He also noted other areas of the school in need of repairs

In the meantime, the immediate concern is the provision of meals for the students.

Upper school students sitting exams are in attendance, but other students including boarders are expected next week.

The ministry will make special provisions to assist with catering lunches for the students in the coming weeks.

The school board also met this afternoon to decide on how to proceed.
