by June 21st, 2019

Grade 6 students who sat the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) exams performed well.

That’s according to Minister with Responsibility for the Education portfolio Karl Samuda.

Mr. Samuda who was addressing journalists at a press conference held at the ministry’s office in Kingston, this morning (Jun 21), expressed confidence in the performance of the over 40,000 students who sat the exams over a three-month period.

He explained that 13 per cent of the students proved highly proficient in the subject areas, while less than 10 per cent recorded a beginner’s level performance.

He noted that the students who are categorized as “beginning” will need intensive on-going academic support at grade 7.

Mr. Samuda said, the students’ performance is a testament to the fact that the ministry is heading in the right direction.

And, several students and principals are in a celebratory mood following the release of the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) exam results.

The results were released earlier today, following a press conference held by the ministry.

One student of the Christian preparatory school in Kingston told Irie FM News that she is happy that she was placed at one of the schools of her choice.

Over in St. Catherine, one student of Marlie Mount Primary is happy that she will be attending Glenmuir High.

Meantime, principals across the island were equally excited.

At the Ramble Primary School in Manchester, a celebratory tradition was kept alive due to the students outstanding performance in the exams.

In Kingston, principal of the Red Hills Primary School explained that parents who visited the school to hear the results seemed to be very pleased.
