School bus operators in St. Ann welcome resumption of face-to-face engagement

by January 5th, 2022

School bus operators in St. Ann whose businesses have been in limbo for the past 2 years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic are welcoming the resumption of face-to-face engagement.

On Monday (January 3), several schools resumed face-to-face classes.

Some administrators have decided to use the blended modality, with students of various grade levels being rotated for week on/week off sessions, while others have opted to use a shift system.

One school bus operator, Candy, told Irie FM News that while she is pleased with the resumption of in-person classes for students, the new situation has some challenges.

These include a reduction in the number of students transported daily, thereby generating less income.

Candy added that she will not be transporting shift students, as it is not feasible.

Another operator Cla-Jay Brown, told Irie FM News that, in effort to make up the shortfall in earnings, the bus fare for students will be increased, but not by much.

Mr. Brown explained that his sole source of income is the school bus, because other options he tried did not work out.
