Some schools in Manchester closed early due to inclement weather

by September 27th, 2017

Several schools in Manchester were forced to close early today (Sep 26) due to heavy rains, pelting the parish.

Some schools reported that they had about 80 % attendance resulting from the inclement weather.

Principal of the Christiana Leased Primary in North East Manchester, Christopher Tyme, says most schools, if not all, closed early between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. in Mandeville, Spaldings and Christaina.

He says that in some instances, attendance was negatively impacted as children could not leave their homes to reach school on time.

In other instances, those who braved the weather had difficulty getting transportation, as there were fewer than normal public passenger vehicles operating.

Mr. Tyme says grades one and two students at Christiana Leased Primary were forced to abandon their grade block, due to a leaking roof.
