Scores of commuters, students in St Ann left stranded as transport operators protest bad roads

Scores of commuters including students have been left stranded, as transport operators continue to withdraw their service, in protest, over the poor state of roads from Brown’s Town to Runaway Bay and Discovery Bay, in St. Ann.

On Monday morning, the operators used fallen trees and rocks, to block sections of the roadways, rendering them impassable.

Hours later access was restored, after the police cleared the debris.

However there were instances, where residents continued to block the roads, after they were cleared.

Taxi operators have continued to register their anger, by withdrawing their service.

One motorist, Gregory told Irie Fm news, that as a result, several students were seen walking home, in the rain.

Meantime , Principal of the Discovery Bay all age school, Marcella Shaw Bryan, said several teachers were late for classes on Monday, as a result of the protest.

She said many students did not turn up for classes.

Mrs. Bryan is hoping that the protest will not continue through to tomorrow.

Meantime, principal of York Castle High Raymon Treasure, told Irie Fm news, that a number of his students were also late for classes.

He said some students may have challenges getting home.

 

 

He said if the protest continues into tomorrow, classes will be held, online.
