Security forces seize police uniform in Mt. Salem

by October 7th, 2017

Security forces operating in Mt. Salem, St. James are reporting that items including two police uniforms were seized during an operation today (Oct 7).

Sections of the Mt. Salem community have been placed under a curfew.

Last month, the Prime Minister declared that the first zone of special operations would be imposed in Mt. Salem.

In a statement today, the Constabulary Communications unit says the curfew was effected yesterday evening, and will run until 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.

The boundaries of the curfew include Mount Salem main road, Barnett View, Catherine Drive, Jarrett Terrace, Mount Salem Gully and Catherine Mount.

During the hours of the curfew, all persons within the boundaries are required to remain within their premises, unless otherwise authorized.

Head of the Constabulary Communications Unit Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay says the curfew is one of many operational tools used by the security forces within the ZOSO.

The curfew allows for the restriction of movement within a specified area, and for the security forces to carry out detailed investigations.

Superintendent Lindsay says the probe is based on intelligence gathered.

In the meantime, a community identification services fair and community meeting are to be held at the Mount Salem Primary and Junior High School, tomorrow.

The community identification fair is set for 10:00 a.m. while the community meeting will start at 3:00 p.m.

The CCU says the community identification fair will include the issuing of approximately 2 hundred birth certificates, as well as registration for tax registration number (TRN), national insurance scheme (NIS) cards, and birth certificates.

A photo booth will be at the fair where persons can take their photograph for identification purposes.

Justices of the peace will also be available to certify photographs.

Additionally, the community action plan for social intervention will be presented at the community meeting.
