by October 6th, 2021

The Ministry of National Security said its in dialogue with its legal team to determine the best approach to deal with outstanding used cars for the Jamaica Constabulary Force, J-C-F.

The matter was raised by Fitz Jackson who chaired yesterday’s (October 5) meeting of the Public Administration and Appropriations Committee PAAC, which is reviewing the supplementary estimates.

The government had entered into a 427 million dollar contract with Obrien’s International Car Sales and Rental for the procurement of 200 pre-owned vehicles for the police in January 2017.

However there were missed deadlines and extensions for delivery of the vehicles with over 30 yet to be received.

Permanent Secretary in the National Security Ministry Courtney Williams explained that the matter is being pursued.

Mr. Jackson, however, questioned what was being discussed at this point, noting that the matter is well over three years and had gone to mediation.

He noted that this was taking place, while the police force continues to require vehicles.

In response Mr. Williams said no time had been set for the resolution of this matter.

Mr. Jackson then underscored the need for the matter to be resolved.
