Opposition Senator Wentworth Skeffery wants more to be done for the Municipal City of Portmore.

The municipality was established in 2003, with the first election held in June of that year facilitating the direct election of the Mayor.

Senator Skeffery says the boundaries of the municipality needs to be clearly defined.

The bill to have the boundaries defined is currently before a joint select committee of parliament.

The opposition senator states, that the municipality has not realised its full potential, and has called for the mordenisation to continue to the advantage of the residents.

Meantime, Mayor of Kingston Delroy Williams says adding city to the name of the municipality of Portmore can open many doors.

Mr. Williams says international agencies and other municipalities put a premium on the city status.

He stated that the city moniker can help to propel Portmore unto the international scene.

The Kingston Mayor says commerce is thriving and the economic and commercial activities are increasing daily and merits the recognition.

And, Senator Sophia Fraser Binns says it’s a shame that Portmore does not have its own hospital.

She added that there is much that needs to be done improve the status of Portmore.
