Seven teams to play in Netball competition at JHASN tournament

Netball will definitely be on the cards for the 2017 renewal of the Jamaica High School Alumni Sporting Network (JHASN) tournament on Labour Day weekend in Florida between September 3 and 4 . 

The organizing committee of this the ninth renewal of the tournament, has been bombarded with requests to have netball back on the programme, as it is understood that it would be a disappointment to members of the community in Florida if the sport did not return.

The competing teams this year will include : Ardenne, Dunoon, Dinthill, Excelsior, Denbigh, The Queens and Glenmuir .

President of the JHASN Lavern Deer spoke to Irie Fm sport on the importance of netball returning to the itinerary. “It is indeed a wonderful feeling to have netball back, as many persons were calling me and expressing their disappointment when they heard the news that netball was off, ….and within a flash I got some good support from members of the community here in Florida to have the sport return, and I am really excited and looking forward to this year’s, renewal.”

Meanwhile, Clarendon College are the new comers for the 9th renewal of the tournament.

The football competition ended prematurely at the quarterfinal stage last year, due to bad weather and all eight teams which made it to the last eight have been granted automatic qualification in this year’s renewal. Those eight teams are St Elizabeth Technical, Dinthill, Kingston College, Cornwall College, Ferncourt, Meadowbrook, Wolmer’s and Bridgeport.

The winner of this year’s soccer tournament will be awarded 2000 US dollars.

President of the Jamaica High School Alumni Sports Network Lavern Deer is already upbeat three weeks ahead of the 2017 renewal.
