by May 8th, 2022

Several persons including voters were this afternoon (May 8), prevented from entering the Moore Town community in Portland, where a maroon election is reportedly underway.

18-year-old Lomorra Dillon otherwise called “Hope” is challenging Colonel Wallace Sterling, for leadership of the Moore Town Maroons.

Colonel Sterling has been leader of the maroons for almost three decades.

The police had ramped up their presence in the area in a bid to ensure peace, as the incumbent Colonel Sterling had expressed concern about his safety.

Speaking with Irie Fm News this afternoon, Ms. Dillon said some voters were turned away by the police.

However, Colonel Sterling who has been adamant that the election is null and void, disputed the claims, noting that there can only be voters, if there is an election.

He said the persons were turned away to prevent any altercation in the community.
