Shaggy leads IRAWMA with 5 nominations

Dancehall deejay Shaggy leads the 37th International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) with five nominations.

Sean Paul, PopCaan and fast-rising reggae sensation Koffee follow closely with four nominations each.

Shaggy is nominated for the Marcus Garvey Humanitarian Award, Best Crossover Song for Don’t Make Me Wait which features Sting and Best Reggae Rock Entertainer.

Shaggy is also nominated for Bob Marley Award for Entertainer of the Year along with PopCaan, Chronixx, Busy Signal, and Damian Marley. Shaggy and PopCaan are also vying for Best Album.

PopCaan’s other nominations include Best Song for “Body So Good” and Best Male Dancehall Artist along with Aidonia, Vybz Kartel, Masicka and Govana.

Meanwhile, Sean Paul’s four nominations include two nods for Best Crossover Song for Tip On It featuring Laza Morgan, and Mad Love with David Guetta and Becky G. Sean again score a double nomination in the Best Music Video category for Tip On It featuring Laza Morgan and Mad Love with David Guetta and Becky G.

As for Koffee, the fast-rising reggae sensation is nominated for Best Female Vocalist, Best New Entertainer, Best Teen Entertainer, and Most Promising Entertainer.

Koffee is also slated to host IRAWMA along with Tony Rebel who will be inducted in the IRAWMA Hall of Fame along with Mutabaruka and Boris Gardner.

On May 11, 2019, the ballroom of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston will come alive with IRAWMA.

Under the theme “TheReggae50”, the awards will be given in 32 nominated categories; while 35 special awards (without votes) will be awarded to reggae foundation members and other reggae greats who have made extraordinary contributions to the music industry.
