by May 22nd, 2019

In-form opener Shai Hope will enter the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales as the highest ranked West Indies Batsman on the MRF Tyres ICC One Day International Rankings.

The 25 year-old occupies the No.4 spot after having a string of sensational performances during the recently concluded Tri-Nation One Day International Series in Ireland where he was named Player of the Series after slamming two centuries and two half centuries in 5 matches to end with a tournament best 470 runs at an average of 94.

Top spot on the rankings for ODI batsmen is held by Indian captain Virat Kohli ahead of teammate Rohit Sharma and Ross Taylor of New Zealand.

Shimron Hetmyer, at 29, is the next highest placed West Indian.

The rankings for ODI bowlers is led by India’s Jasprit Bumbrah with Trent Boult, Rashid Khan, Imran Tahir and Kagiso Rabada completing the top 5.

Jason Holder (39) and Ashley Nurse (48) are the only West Indians in the top 50.

Holder, however, occupies the No.8 spot among all-rounders behind Shakib Al Hasan who ascended to the No.1 spot after totalling 140 runs, including two unbeaten half-centuries, to go alongside two wickets for Bangladesh in the historic Tri-Nation Series triumph.

He now has 359 points, twenty clear of Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, the previous holder of the top ranking, who has now slipped to No.2. Rashid’s Afghanistan team-mate Mohammad Nabi rounds out the top three, with 319 points.

Pakistan are the only other team to have two players in the top ten, with Imad Wasim at No.4 and Mohammad Hafeez claiming the seventh spot. They are separated by New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner (No.5) and England’s Chris Woakes, who is up four places to No.6.
