Shannon Kalawan selected women’s track athlete of the year

Former Edwin Allen high star Shannon Kalawan has been selected women’s track athlete of the year for the CIAA Conference in the United States.

This comes after her four gold medal-winning performance at the two-day conference championships held last weekend.

The Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) Sophomore won the 400 and 200 metres as well as the high jump individual tiles and anchored the victorious (SAU) 4x400metres relay.

She also added a silver medal as part of the medley relay team as she scored a total of 30 individual points and contributed to another 18 from the five events she competed in.

Despite her performance the lady falcons lost their conference team title to Virginia State University 129-110.

Kalawan meanwhile is ranked number 1 in division 2 in the 400metres after recording the seventh-fastest time (52.71) in D2 history.

Kalawan is slated to defend her 400metres title at the indoor national championships from March 8 – 9 in Pittsburgh, Kansas.
