Simone Edwards in Jamaica Basketball Association election race

The Jamaica Basketball Association should have a new president on Sunday. 

Basketball stalwarts Major Clifton Lumbsden and Paulton Gordon are the front runners, with Khurt Comrie of the Western Basketball Association also listed.

The race however will take on a colourful flair, as former national basketball player and WNBA stand out Simone Edwards is included to add some dimension to the race to be staged at the JOA offices starting at 11 am.

Edwards who won a WNBA title with the Seattle Storms who will be hoping to step into her first formal Administrative role faces Trudy Riley for the second Vice President post. National Spokesperson for Caribbean American Heritage Month, in June 2017, will be running on Lumbsden slate.

Meanwhile the first vice president match up sees Galton Taylor up against Trevor Poyser.

The position of secretary is being contested between Douglas Reid and Pauline Richards, while Kevin Alexander meets Daisy Pedley for the post of treasurer.

Lumbsden is the current President of Business House Basketball Association and Paul ton Gordon is the current first vice president of the Jamaica Basketball Association.

The election comes, five months after Dr Mark Bloomfield demitted office before his tenure was completed.

Calvin Martin has been serving as interim president since September last year.
