A somber mood hangs over the community of Albert Town in Trelawny, as residents continue to mourn the death of 15-year-old Jamalia Cole.

Jamalia died on Sunday, after being beaten in a home invasion early Sunday morning.

The Falmouth police have detained one person of interest in the case, and are searching for the other assailants involved in the early morning attack on the family at their home.

Jamalia, her mother and two other relatives were at home when assailants entered the dwelling and inflicted wounds on three of the four occupants.

An eight-year-old escaped injuries.

When lawmen arrived at the scene, Jamalia was found with her hands bound next to the house while her mother was found inside of the house unresponsive.

A 17-year-old occupant was also found with head injuries.

The victims were taken to hospital where Jamalia later died.

Her mother is still hospitalized.

Speaking with Irie Fm news on Monday evening, the teen’s father Shirley Cole said his daughter who was a grade 9 student at Troy High School, was a quiet individual.

Mr Cole lamented that his daughter, who had lived with him for some time, might still be alive, had she not decided to move to her mother’s home.

He said his daughter did not deserve this fate.
